    Het gezin van Jan en Maeijken wordt rond 1603 slachtoffer van de grote pestepidemie die Breda teistert . Alleen de baby, Jan, overleeft de epidemie. Op 15 oktober 1603 hebben Jan en zijn vrouw Maeijken eem testament opgemaakt: Cornelis Joris Andrieaanssen wordt later genoemd als voogd en tot toeziender worden twee andere ooms aangesteld.
    De weeskamerstukken zijn een rijke bron van informatie,. Afgezien van legaten bedragen de ontvangsten uit het sterfhuis aanwezige kasgeld en verkoop van huisraad 2331Rgl 6 stuivers 1 ort., tevens 1 st. beemd, groot ca 1/2 bunder gelegen in de Leeghstraat.
    De erfenis telt wel een groot aantal obligaties en schuldbrieven tot een totale waarde van 6108 Rijksgulden en 2054 Karolusgulden.De knecht, Jan Peeters, krijgt de Zondagse kleren van Jan.
    Het huis waarin ze woonden, behoorde aan Jan zijn moeder en werd gehuurd voor 20 Rgl /halfjaar.
