Boelo werd in de oorlog gedwongen wek te verrichten in Duitsland. Hij kwam terecht bij een kwekerij in Bielefeld. Na een verlofperiode is hij niet terug gekomen en dook onder in de Achterhoek.
Vermoedelijk speelde zijn oom Petrus Andreas daarin een rol.
