In Memoriam
Op den 27sten Februari, in de middag¬hoogte van den dag, 12 uur, ontsliep zacht en kalm in Zijnen Heere en Hei¬land, onze geliefde Vriend en Broeder Andele Hiemstra.
Een ernstige, doodelijke krankheid maakte een einde aan zijn zoo arbeid¬zaam leven. Wie kende hem niet, den man met zijn reuzengestalte, forsch en brred gebouwd.
De dood, de koning der verschrikking, die met- onze schoonste verwachtingen voor ’t tijdelijke leven spot, die onze kracht op eenmaal breekt als een riet, heeft zich in z’n sombere gedaante en verschrikking getoond. Langer dan wij misschien vermoedden, knaagde aan dien forschen eik een worm. De bode des doods, de krankheid, overmande hem. En, ’t bleek te ras dat de wortel van den boom Zijns levens doodelijk getroffen was.
In de middaghoogte zijns levens stierf hij.
Gestorven zooals hij leefde.
Kalm, berustend, vertrouwend. Neen, hij was geen man, die zichzelven zocht. Die vooraan stond. Zijn kracht was in zijn stillen arbeid, op den achtergrond, maar daarom niet minder groot. Neen, daarom grooter!
Welk een kracht was hij èn voor dé gemeente èn voor ons. Zijn gemis zal eerst ons doen gevoelen, ’t geen hij voor ons is geweest.
Zijn warmvoelend, teer gemoed maakte hem tot een geboren Diaken.
En nu opgeroepen uit ons midden; om niet meer als een trouwe dienstknecht van Zijnen hemelschen Koning in ’t werk der barmhartigheid te dienen, maar om eeuwig Hem groot te maken, die ook hem was.
Zijne Barmhartige Hoogepriester!
Niet meer om te stijden met de strij¬dende kerk, neen, om te rusten van zijnen arbeid, tot ook Jezus hem wekt.
Want ook zijn sterven was een : in Jezus ontslapen!
Troostvolle gedachte!
Pijnlijk is ons zijn gemis. Ledig is zijn plaats in den kring zijner familie!
Trooste de Heere de bedroefde weduwe en kinderen, met Zijne vertroostende genade en beloften.
Hij is de man der weduwen, de Vader der weezen!
Ledig is zijn plaats in de gemeenschap der Broederen.
Met hem kunnen wij niet meer spreken, van, noch over onzen heerlijken arbeid. Maar wat nood! Hij is in Jezus, ontslapee! Wij misgunnen hem dien vollen vrede niet.
Voorwaarts! blijft onzer nog de roep¬stem. Strijdend zoolang onze Koning ons roept voor den strijd.
’t Oog gericht naar ’t Vaderhuis, tot ook wij afgelast worden van onze taak, om met allen die reeds voorgingen, ook met onzen geliefden Broeder, eeuwig in volmaaktheid onzen Koning te mogen verheerlijken,
Zalig zijn de dooden, die in den Heere sterven, van nu aan. Ja, zegt de Geest, opdat zij rusten mogen van hunnen arbeid en hunne werken volgen hen na.
