  • (Biography) .

In 1899 wurde denn Löbnitz gekauft, nach langen Verhandlungen in Putbus beim Fürsten.||Otto Metelmann liked to talk about being apprenticed to a farmer on a large estate in Prignitz. He rented Bussin in Vorpommeren around 1866 and came into the Loebnitzer house. During a party in Manschenhaugen on November 30, 1867 he became engaged to Marie Krüger. The wedding was on June 4th and 5th, 1868 on a day of radiant beauty “the morning a little drizzle like forgotten dew”. The ceremony was held in the upper hall, the dinner in the lower one and the Polonaise went through the Lindenallee.
Their first child, Anna, was born in Bussin on the 8th of May 1871 and on the 4th of October 1872 the second daughter, Mathilde. „I believe it is a little girl, and the little girl shall even have red hair!“ The working situation in Bussin progressed advantageously. Otto’s affluence made many things easy for them and they were very happy there. Later he bought Lankow near Schwerin. It must have been a wonderful place to own located near Schwerin with good openings for trade. Otto Metelmann was born there on the 10th of July 1878.
Mother’s health suffered to such an extent that she never felt really well in Lankow despite its nearness to Schwerin where she enjoyed her much-loved daughter-in-law Elise who lived there. After Lankow was sold Otto and Marie lived for a short while in or near Hamburg Otto wished to buy something in Holstein together with his brothers where they might be able to establish a special hygienic creamery. He was interested all his life in new ideas. Things changed. Grandfather Krüger died and Otto took over Löbnitz.
Little Elise was born in Löbnitz but died soon after birth. The first child who came to the world in Löbnitz was little Richard who lived only a few months. After Richard’s death the mother was so miserable and crushed that they made a trip to enable her to recuperate; this became an annual event. Paul the second son was born 22 May 1884 in Löbnitz and was baptized on the 6th of July. Marie was born on the 14th of April 1886 and Gertrud (Traute) was born on the 28th of July 1888.
The stories of the “old sisters” tell of the beautiful and close-knit marriage and family life they had though they were not free of many worries and difficulties. The Father didn’t really like Vorpommern, especially not the people, and sought to buy something of his own in Holstein. In 1899 they bought Löbnitz after long negotiations in Putbus with the prince.
  • He died on March 15, 1914 in Löbnitz, Vorpommern-Rügen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, he was 73 years old.
  • He is buried in Friedhof||Cemetery, Kenz (Barth), Vorpommern-Rügen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
  • A child of Ludwig Metelmann and Maria Magdalena Gerds
