Notes about Cornelis Wilhelm Oudmaijer

roepnaam Nelis. De houten beelden op de Amsterdamse centuurbaan zijn door hem gerestaureerd. Als huwelijksgeschenk voor zijn kinderen maakte hij gebeeldhouwde massief eikenhouten linnenkasten, houten speelgoed voor de kleinkinderen. Hij was een notoir stotteraar, overigens rustig, met stug haar en blauwe ogen. Met Souilljee, Geertruida hebben zij na hun huwelijk in de Czaar Peterbuurt en later tot het overlijden van Nelis te Amsterdam in de 2e v.Swindenstraat (Dapperbuurt, drie hoog) gewoond. Geertje blijkt een enorm humoristisch persoon, op latere leeftijd slechts gewapend met +®+®n tand, donkerbruine ogen en zwart haar in een knot. Ze was voor haar (klein)kinderen een echte Opoe (Oma is alleen voor "deftige" lui) die veel zong, vertelde en verwende met snoep, vreterijtjes en rondleidingen door oud Amsterdam. Ook trad ze binnen de familie als kraamhulp en baker op. Als Cornelis met zijn stotteren "er niet uitkomt" dan nam zij de draad van het verhaal moeiteloos op. Cornelis had een goede band met zijn halfbroer Jacobus Hendricus; ze zijn samen met hun vrouwen op menig foto te vinden
