Als Gerardus 1-8-1900 met Christina Beste trouwt wordt het adres Dapperstraat 47 te A'dam betrokken. Ze hadden een sigarenwinkel. Bij de geboorte van Gerardus Johannes wonen ze in de Czaar Peterstraat 145, een jaar later bij de geboorte van Johan (1902) zijn ze iets verhuisd naar de Czaar Peterstraat 89. Zo rond 1904 (bij de geboorte van een tweeling waarvan er een direkt overlijdt) woonden zij in de Conradstraat 58 te Adam. Na weer twee verhuizingen (weer terug naar Czaar Peterstraat, nu nr 58, daarna 14-3-1906 naar Balistraat 44) overlijdt Christina Beste op 18-4-1906. Haar overlijden zou veroorzaakt kunnen zijn door een volgende miskraam. Het gezin gaat verder naar Blankenstraat 143 (28-6-1906) en Kruyenhof 13 (1-5-1907).
Op 4-5-1907 verhuist Gerardus (33 jaar, ruim 1 jaar weduwnaar) met zijn zoon Gerrit (6 jaar) van A'dam naar R'dam, om daar bij de werf Feijnoord de Zuid als scheepsklinker te gaan werken. Daarbij komt hij in Barendrecht ("Driesprong") in de kost bij de moeder (Broekzitter, meisjesnaam Zevenbergen) van zijn latere (2e) vrouw, die hij daar leert kennen. Ze laten bij de verhuizing zussen, broer, stiefbroer en vader (voor de 2e keer weduwnaar) achter.
Volgens overlevering is grootopa een tiran en het contact met de familie niet al te best. Zijn zoontje Frits (Johannes Frederik, 3 jaar) blijft eerst bij Pieter Johannes ten Haage en vanaf 26-7-1907 bij Pieter Kooy in A'dam achter. Frits komt alsnog naar R'dam v+¦+¦r juni 1910 maar pas na het 2e huwelijk van Gerardus (Dit tweede huwelijk met Lijntje Apollonia, sedert exact 1 jaar weduwe van Laurens Lagendijk, waarvan zij de drie nog zeer jeugdige kinderen Nico, Albert en Cor (die net een jaar is geworden, de toekomstige tweede man van Huiberdina Bogaers) uiteraard meebrengt. Het huis aan de Gouwstraat is dan met vijf kleine kinderen wel gevuld.

Gerardus en Lijntje gaan te Charlois vanuit de Gouwstraat in ondertrouw. Volgende woonadressen zijn Putsestraat en later Beverstraat 11a13 (eind Beijerlandselaan vlak bij het sluisje, vandaar de bijnaam "Opoe Sluisie".) waar Lijntje Appolonia (thuis "zus" genaamd) geboren werd. De woning kende achter elkaar vier krappe slaapkamertjes naast een lange gang en een woonkamer. Het kleine balkon kwam 11/2 meter boven een plaatsje uit waar het riool ook op uitkwam. Het stonk altijd in huis. Cor en Albert Lagendijk hebben daar ieder nog lang een kamertje.
Gezien zijn beroepen (de 3e generatie scheepstimmerman, werkman) een goede keuze, dicht bij zich ontwikkelende woongebieden, industrie, havens en werven. Voor de 2e wereldoorlog zijn ze omstreeks 1935 verhuist naar Beijerlandsestraat 16a (1e verdiep) waar Lijntje overlijdt. Ze kregen drie kinderen, waarvan echter de laatste twee voor hun derde levensjaar overlijden. Lijntje, het enige overlevende kind van Lijntje, trouwt 1941 met Johannes Antonius Berkhof. Ze trekken boven haar ouders in (Beijerlandsestraat 16a, 2e verdiep), waar ze met hun latere twee kinderen (2 en 3 jaar) wonen tijdens het overlijden van Gerardus (hartaanval). Zij zijn in '66 verhuisd naar de Kritnostraat 52 te Lombardijen, van waaruit de kinderen weer trouwden.

Notes about Gerardus Johannes Oudmaijer

Gerardus woonde eerst Kattenburgkade 2. Op 7-6-1899 verhuist hij naar Oostenburggracht 43. Als zijn beroep wordt een flinke verscheidenheid opgegeven (magazijnknecht, werkman, scheepsklinker), waaruit zou kunnen blijken dat hij zonder goede opleiding toch van alles aanpakte om iets te verdienen. Hij heeft ook nog als wachtsman (bewaker met hond) bij de Nenijto en zelfs ook als doodgraver gewerkt.
De militaire dienst bleef hem bespaard, wat ook blijkt uit de volgende notitie:
GJ Oudmaijer, beroep magazijnknecht, zv Jacobus en Heutenik, Natt.Mill Provincie NH, inschrijvingsreg. Adam jaar 1893 Nr463, 16-8-1834 loting 2010: vrijgesteld wegens broederdienst. Signalement: 1 El, 7 palm, 0 duim en 5 streep, aangezicht ovaal, voorhoofd rond, ogen blauw, neus ordinair, mond -, kin rond, haar bruin, wenkbr. idem.
