    Hij werd te Groningen 28 Juli 1829 als student ingeschreven en promoveerde aldaar in de rechten 28 Juni 1834 op een dissertatie De similitudine inter delicta eorumque poenas, cum in ultione hominum privata, tum in legibus populorum conspicua. Hij werd advocaat te Groningen en 7 Oct. 1847 gekozen tot lid van den raad dier stad. Op 16 Sept. 1850 werd hij in het kiesdistrict Groningen gekozen tot lid der Provinciale staten. 27 Aug. 1851 door het nieuwe kiezerskorps tot lid van den raad herkozen. Op 27 Juli 1851 werd hij benoemd tot schoolopziener. Op 5 Febr. 1853 werd hij door den raad tot wethouder gekozen. In 1852 was het aantal leden, door het district Groningen naar de staten afgevaardigd, met wijziging der grenzen van dat district van 11 op 8 verminderd. Hierdoor viel Trip bij de herstemming op 24 Mei 1853 als lid af. Op 16 Jan. 1864 koos de raad hem tot gemeenteontvanger. Hij trad dus als raadslid en wethouder af. Op 9 Dec. 1871 werd hij op verzoek eervol ontslagen als schoolopziener. Hij richtte in 1863 te Groningen de bouwvereeniging op, wier voorzitter hij werd.

    Hij werd in 1817, doordat zijn vader in den adelstand verheven werd, eveneens van adel.

    Hij schreef: Het domicilie van onderstand volgens de wet van 28 Juni 1854 (Gron. 1862); Geschiedenis der ziekten die in de 17e, 18e en begin 19e eeuw algemeen geheerscht hebben te Groningen (Gron. 1867); De reiniging der stad Groningen in verband met de veenkoloniën in hare voormalige jurisdictiën van 't begin der 15e eeuw tot den tegenwoordigen tijd (Gron. 1880); De familie Trip (niet in den handel) (Gron. 1883).
