Peter (kleinzoon van Nikus) stuurde het volgende verhaal:

Zo gaat het verhaal dat mijn grootvader, die in Hoorn stuurman was op de zogenaamde Hoornse boot, ooit in Amsterdam een aantal vaten wijn moest laden.
Per ongeluk of expres, het verhaal vertelt het niet, sloeg een van de vaten lek. De bemanning ontfermde zich over de inhoud. Toen later die dag deboot in het zicht van Hoorn kwam viel het op dat deze voor de haven stil bleef liggen. Een voor onderzoek uitgestuurde botter trof de bemanning inkennelijk staat aan beducht voor het binnenvaren en aanleggen. De bemanning van de botter loodste de boot alsnog de haven in.
Een broer van mijn opa werd belast met het naar huis brengen van mijn opa, maar niet nadat hij een etensgamel met wijn meegekregen had.
Mijn oma ontfermde zich over haar man, kleedde hem uit en legde hem in bed terwijl broerlief in de kamer wachtte. Die verveelde zich niet want toenmijn oma terugkwam in de kamer was de gamel met wijn leeg en zwagerlief vol.
Zodat ze die ook naar huis kon brengen.

Ook gaat het verhaal dat mijn opa zich in de Volendammer ophield (bekend van 'dat kleine café aan de haven' van vader Abraham) en dat zijn broer hemdaar vandaan moest halen op aanraden van mijn grootmoeder. Toen de broer na een tijdje niet terugkeerde werd nog een broer gestuurd.
Toen deze lange tijd wegbleef werd ten einde raad een zuster gestuurd. Maar ook dat hielp niet.
Uiteindelijk werd een buurman naar de Volendammer gestuurd waar hij alle vier Monsen in een buitengewoon uitgelaten humeur aantrof.
Als excuus kan gelden dat zij allen Harderwijkers van geboorte waren en zich niet echt thuis voelden in het vreemde Hoorn.
