Tonia was een heel mooie vrouw. Zij werkte tussen 1880 en 1886 als meid bij Vollegraf, griffier te H'Wijk. Van 1886 tot 1888 was ze kamenierster bijbaronesse van Palland. Vervolgens solliciteerde Tonia als dienstbode bij Jhr. Mr. Pieter Jacob Elout van Soeterwoude te Den Haag. Baronesse van Pallandwerkte deze sollicitatie tegen omdat ze Tonia niet kwijt wilde. Tonia werkte van 1888 tot 1891 in Den Haag. Zij kwam reeds zwanger terug naar Harderwijkwaar ze Tinus Mons (haar achterachterneef) trouwde. Boze tongen beweerden, dat Tinus niet de vader van de baby was.
Tonia gedroeg zich zo, dat zij wel de freule genoemd werd. Neefjes en nichtjes noemden hen Tonemeu en Tinusoom (Bron: boek: Foppen vissen in 400 jaarFamiliegeschiedenis).

They got married on June 17, 1891 at Harderwijk, she was 23 years old.
