Aaron and Ottie were members of the Pleasant Retreat Method ist Church from an
early age. Old timers have told of the way Aaron sat wit h the sick and Ottie
was always giving a helping hand to anyone in deed in the c ommunity. Aaron
farmed in the early years and later worked as a dry cleaner . He had cows and
two mules. There was always a garden of vegetables and flo wers. In the early
years, Ottie drew water from a well and washed the clothe s with a scrub board
and boiled the white clothes in an iron pot over an open fi re. Ironing was
done with heavy smoothing irons heated on the wood stove . She milked at least
one cow every morning for many years; she could skirt the m ilk right in the
cat's mouth! Ottie was a charter member of the Smith Count y WHD Club and
life-time member of the WSCS of Pleasant Retreat Methodis t Church. She was a
seamstress and sewed for others after the family was all gr own. --Memories of
