    Hij was een man van een eerlijke plichtsbetrachting en onkreukbaren trouw. Zijn geheele leven heeft hij hard gewerkt en zijn arbeid geadeld door een braaf en godsvruchtig leven.
    Moeilijkheden bleven hem niet gespaard, doch in vertrouwen op gods hulp wist hij ze te overwinnen.
    De voor Nijmegen ongelukkige 22 februari kwam. In een enkel oogenblik was hij onder het puin bedolven. Hij hoorde nog, dat hem priesterlijke hulp geboden werd; helaas enkel de H; Absolutie kon hij ontvangen. Met den priester bad hij een acte van overgave aan Gods H. Wil. Zoo heeft hij den dood afgewacht, die wel onverwacht en moeilijk kwam, hem echter niet onvoorbereid trof.
    Thans is zijn plaats in vrede en zijn woning in het heilig Sion.
    Dierbare kinderen, welk een slag heeft plotseling onze gehele familie getroffen door dat bombardement en hoe zwaar is het voor u om de gevolgen te dragen.
    Heb echter goeden moed, houdt u aan uw geloof en bidt veel voor uw overledenen.

Notes about Gerardus Marinus van Cromvoirt

bij foto: Enkele dagen na het bombardement stijgen onderaan de Stikke Hezelstraat nog steeds rookwolken uit het puin op. De gehavende Sint-Stevenstoren, waarop een kluit van houten balken gevaarlijk overhelt, steekt boven de ruïnes aan de Stikke Hezelstraat en Kerktrappen I uit.

Gerard van Cromvoirt had een brood- en banketwinkel in de Stikke Hezelstraat nr 27. Na de dood van zijn vrouw Johanna van Herwijnen op 5 december 1943 zette hij de bakkerij voort met zijn zoon Toon. Zijn jongste zoon Arnold, die nog thuis woonde, was al voor de wet getrouwd met zijn buurmeisje Tine Wisse.
Bep Linders was de verloofde van Marius van Cromvoirt, de op een na jongste zoon. Zij woonde met haar ouders in de Korte Brouwersstraat , waar haar vader een melkwinkel had.

Gerard Cromvoirt woonde met zijn drie zonen. Toen de bommen vielen bevond Gerard zich tegenover het brandend fornuis. Hij raakte bekneld toen de Stevenstoren op zijn huis viel en is ter plaatse verbrand. Een van zijn zonen was voor de wet getrouwd met Tiny Wisse die aan de overkant woonde, Stikke Hezelstraat 33. Op dit pand vielen twee bommen én de klokken van de Stevenstoren waardoor het huis instortte waarbij Tiny en nog drie gezinsleden om het leven kwamen.
