In 1918, aan het einde van de Eerste Wereldoorlog, heeft Leonardus van Cromvoirt zijn ontslag gekregen als koster van Bokhoven. Hij was toen 78 jaar oud. In de jaren 1919, 1920 en 1921 kreeg hij telkens in de maand januari op titel van "emeritus koster" de f l00.-, die de kerk van de gemeente ontving, als pensioen. Op 17 juli 1921, de dag van zijn begrafenis, volgde er nog een kleine nabetaling van f 29,-.
Na het ontslag van Leonardus van Cromvoirt, een vrijgezel, is de zoon van Josephus (Sjef) van Mil, Karel, die toen pas 14 jaar oud was, als een soort leerlingkoster in de kerk gaan helpen. Vanaf 1918 trad hij in de traditie van de voorafgaande kosters en was hij getuige bij twee huwelijken in 1918 en twee huwelijken in 1919. In 1920 werd geen enkel huwelijk gesloten
