Notes about Cornelia VANDERMEER

Obituary from the Boyden Reporter, Thursday, January 12, 1933: Mrs. Cornelia Kuyper, nee Vander Meer, was born near Pella, Iowa, January 8, 1858. At the age of 8 years she moved with her parents to Portland, Oregon. Some years later she moved to Pella and in 1870 she immigrated to Sioux County, being one of the earliest settlers in Sioux County. She was united in marriage to Arie Kuyper of Douglas County, S.D., in 1883, and in 1893 they moved to their farm in Sioux county, near Boyden, where they lived until the death of her husband in 1910. Later she resided in Orange City, Boyden and Pella. Three years ago she entered the Pella home for the aged.

Though the couple had no children of their own, they took into their home 5 orphaned and homeless children. Two of them preceded them in death, Clarence, aged 6, and Raymond, aged 9. Three are left to mourn the death of a kind and loving mother, Mrs. Arie Verdoorn of Hollandale, Minnesota; Farrell Kuyper, of Des Moines; and Mrs. Ben Fikse of Forest City, Iowa.
