Hi way Patrol Records: Captain Tony Scholten Tony A. Scholten was born on October 1, 1921 in Corsica, South Dakota the son of William K and Jennie (Vanden Hoek) Scholten. He died on Sunday, August 18, 2002 at Brookview Manor at the age of 80 years.
Tony graduated from the Corsica High School in 1939. He then served in the United States Army Air Force during WW II. Much of that time was spent in the China-Burma-India Theator. He was united in marriage to Jean Hietbrink on June 27, 1947 in Corsica. Tony joined the South Dakota Highway Patrol in 1951, serving in Brookings, Aberdeen, and Pierre until his retirement in 1978, holding the rank of Captain. After retiring, he returned to Brookings were he was then employed as a rural mail carrier for the next 10 1/2 years. He was a member of the Faith Reformed Church, Golden K's, American Legion, Parkinson's Support Group, and the Retired Patrol Association. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.
