Siegfried Frencken, in Helden beter bekend als ‘Sief Frencken’ of ‘Meester Frencken’ werd op 26 juni 1907 geboren als eerste zoon van Hubertus Frencken en Maria Creemers. Hij dankt zijn naam aan de acht dagen voor zijn geboorte overleden Siegfridus Frencken (1839-1907), een broer van de grootvader van Sief.
Hij trouwde in 1938 met Nelly Kranen. Samen kregen ze zes kinderen. Na de bevalling van hun zoon Peter, is Nelly overleden. Ruim 21 jaar later trouwde hij opnieuw met Mia Kranen, een zus van Nelly.
Ruim voor zijn eerste huwelijk was Sief een van de eerste Heldenaren die op de landelijke radio kwamen met het sextet ‘De Vrolijke Zangers’, samen met Johan Crijns, Pierre van Soest, Jo Wils, Wiel Peters en Wiel Kranen. De groep was per toeval ontstaan tijdens een Caeciliaviering van de plaatselijke fanfare in Helden-Dorp.
In 1942 was Sief een van de aanjagers om voor Helden een voetbalveld aan te laten leggen. Vlak voor de huidige blokhut van Jong Nederland ligt de bakermat voor wat nu vv Helden is. Samen met Piet Gerris zette Sief Frencken zich in om de golvende zandvlakte die toen in het park van Haffmans lag, met de dorpsgemeenschap om te toveren tot een voetbalterrein.
Sief was ruim veertig jaar actief in het onderwijs en was 25 jaar directeur van de Gewestelijke Sociale School Helden. Jarenlang was hij verbonden als leerkracht van de eerste klas van de jongensschool in Helden. Hier ontpopte hij zich tot pedagoog in de dop. Hij had een druk bestaan maar had ook nog tijd voor diverse hobby’s. Zo was hij correspondent voor het Dagblad voor Noord-Limburg, Midden-Limburg (’t Hèljes Blèdje) en schreef hij gedichten in het dialect. Het meest bekende is wel ‘Helje ôs Dörp’, dat op muziek werd gezet door zijn schoonbroer en werd gespeeld bij talloze gelegenheden. Ook deed hij veel verdienstelijk werk voor de Missie en was hij reisleider bij boottochten voor bejaarden, onder meer op de Rode Kruisboot.
