Piet had oa een grote boerderij opgebouwd in Rhodesië, met een dorp waarvan 5000 mensen werk hadden.
Er was een schooltje gesticht, en een dam gebouwd.
Vanaf het jaar 2000 werd het land onteigend door de president, dictator ; Robert Mugabe, om het terug te geven aan de zwarte Zimbabwanen.
Zij hadden echter geen ervaring om de gronden te bewerken of geen geld om zaden en machines te kopen, zodat de akkers onbewerkt bleven.
Hierdoor verhoogde de werkloosheid en ontstond er een hongersnood.
Piet en zijn gezin zijn toen verdreven en wonen nu in Captains Mountain, Australië. In 2006 werden zij Australisch staatsburger.
