Notes about Matthias Bude
wanneer Ida Ponts in 1743 te Montfort op de pijnbank wordt gelgd, noemt zij ondermeer "den oudtsten Bude woonende aen de Bergh bij Hoensbrorck". Hij zou samen met haar en een aantal bendeleden hebben deelgenomen aan de kerkdiefstallen te Amstenrade, Bingelrade en Oirsbeek. Matthias Budé is vermoedelijk ook genoemd door de echtgenoot van Ida Ponts, Joannes Hoonof, die destijds eveneens in Montfort gevangen zat. Joannes Honnoff weet zcih nog wel te herinneren, dat hij Matthijs heet, maar de achternaam schiet hem niet te binnen. Direct daarna zegt hij dat de naam hem is ingevallen en dat hij met zijn achternaam Beijckelaers heet en noemt hem dan : Matthijs woonende in Hoensbroek boven aen den Bergh omtrent de 20 passen van 't huis van de scholtis Tosses.
Mathijs Budé is niet vervolgd, waarschijnlijk omdat hij te Montfort slechts door twee 'medeplichtige getuigen"is genoemd als complice en door geen enkele gedtineerde uit Hoensbroek.
Een van z'n zonen (Leonard Budé) is later wel als bokkenrijder vervolgd. Hij werd in 1775 op de Lommelenberg bij Valkenburg opgehangen.
