BAREFOOT BAY RESIDENT BERNIE FORKER DIES

Bernie Troy "Dude" Forker, 78, a retired sheet metal employee and supervisor from Industrial First in Ohio, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Sebastian River Medical Center in Roseland. Mr. Forker was born in Zanesville, Ohio. He came to Brevard County in 1984 from Cleveland. "His nickname 'Dude' came from his sister because he liked to dress up a lot," said his wife, Nola Vondy-Forker of Barefoot Bay. "When he was a little boy, he loved to dress in his nice shirt, jacket and tie at all times. His great-grandson began to do the same thing recently and neither of them knew about the other," she added. "He was very jovial, upbeat and charming," his wife said. "Everybody just loved him, he literally had thousands of friends. He believed in always trying to make others happy and would come up with the cutest things to make people laugh. He never thought of himself and always of others," she said. "He was a good provider, good husband, good everything," she said. "We had a lot of fun together, he was just a joy to be with. He was the perfect husband and gentleman," she added. Mr. Forker was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Ameican Legion, The Baytones and Horseshoe Pitching Club and volunteered at Sebastian River Medical Center and Holmes Regional Medical Center. Mr. Forker also was a singer and actor for Inspirational Productions. He sang for many choirs in the area and also performed in the Easter production of "He's Alive." Noted many times for his gardening, "he could charm anyone out of a plant that he saw and didn't have so he could add it to his garden," his wife said. "He had the greenest thumb in town," said his son,Jeffrey Forker of Chardon, Ohio.

Other survivors include his daughters, Sharon Bloemendaal of the Netherlands, Sally Johnson of Glenellyn, Ill., Sandra Fronius of Strongsville, Ohio and Jennifer Pendur of Jefferson, Wisc. three sisters of Zanesville 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 tonight at Strunk Funeral Home in Sebastian. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Church Assembly of God in Sebastian. Burial will be at Fountainhead Memorial Park in Palm Bay. Donations may be made to Riverside Assembly of God Building Fund, P.O. Box 780067, Sebastian, FL 32978.
