Notes about Joannes Franciscus Marki

Beroep bij huwelijk: soldaat in het regiment van kolonel Mohr.

In de geboorteakte van zijn zoon Petrus wordt hij Francois MARKI genoemd. Maar in de akte van dochter Hendrina heet hij plots MARQUI. En in zijn huwelijksinschrijving heet hij JAN MARQUIS. Getuigen bij het huwelijk zijn Maria Deckers en Maria Beris, maar vooral die laatste lijkt bij nagenoeg ieder huwelijk in die periode als getuige op te treden? In een andere huwelijksakte heetten ze Dina Blom en Jan Marquies, en is er een attestatie gestuurd naar Hulst. Waarschijnlijk was Jan als soldaat daar gelegerd voordat hij met Dina/Digna trouwde. Het huwelijk was wel een 'moetje', want nog geen vier maanden erna werd zoon Petrus al geboren.

Bijzonder is dat bij geen van alle dopen van hun kinderen een Marki-familielid aanwezig is als getuige of peter c.q. meter. Er wordt rond 1690 - 1710 ook geen Joannes Marki (met alle verschillende schrijfwijzen) geboren in of rond Breda. Toch wordt in zijn ondertrouw- en huwelijksacte aangegeven dat hij afkomstig is uit Breda. De namen van de kinderen van Digna en Jan doen ook vermoeden dat er een sterke link is met een aantal families Marki en Cluijters in Breda. Die lijn wordt hier dan ook gevolgd als 'bloedlijn', waarbij het waarschijnlijk is dat de geboorte van Joannes in het gezin Merci - Cluijters op één of andere manier niet goed uit de archieven te halen is. Bedenk daarbij dat rond de tijd van zijn geboorte de Spaanse Successieoorlog woeddde in de Zuidelijke Nederlanden, waarbij in de omgeving van Breda grote gevechten en troepenverplaatsingen plaatsvonden. Dit is doorgaans geen garantie voor continuïteit in administratieve perfectie.
