Gerardus Jacobus wordt op 15-03-1890 geschikt geacht voor de Militie. Hij is lang 1.75 m. Op grond van een "lichamelijk gebrek", namelijk code 54, beenbreuk, kon hij worden vrijgesteld van de Nationale Militie. Hij heeft zich echter vrijwillig aangeboden. Op 12-05-1890 wordt hij ingedeeld bij het 7e Regiment Infanterie. Op 18-06-1890 wordt hij vrijgesteld wegens lichamelijk gebrek.
