Carel Lourens is in 18893 gekeurd voor de Militie en goedgekeurd. Hij is groot 1.69 m. Hij gaat niet voor zijn eigen nummer in de Militie, maar treed op als vervanger van Cornelis Brouwer uit Beemster. Op 09-03-1894 wordt hij in gedeeld bij het regiment veldartillerie. Op 15 mei 1895 wordt hij op zijn verzoek ingedeeld bij het 1e regiment veldartillerie. Op 17 juli 1898 werd Carel Lourens opgenomen in het Buitengasthuis, afdeling besmettelijke ziekten. Het Buitengasthuis lag nabij het Wilhelminagasthuis. Na de bouw van het Wilhelminagasthuis kwam het Buitengasthuis te vervallen. Op 30 juli 1898 werd hij uit het ziekenhuis ontslagen.
