Notes about Maria Paulina Dohmen

Bij haar huwelijk woonde ze in Delft en was ze zonder beroep. Pauline heeft later gewoond in Bloemendaal en vanaf juni 1937 te Haarlem, op achtereenvolgens Leidschevaart 64, Kinderhuissingel 56 en Jansweg 40 [bron haar persoonskaart, die pas in 1937 begint]. Eerder heeft ze waarschijnlijk ook in Den Haag gewoond en gewerkt en in ieder geval in 1896 in Delft en in 1895 in Nijmegen. Immers, in 1893 geeft "jufvrouw Maria Paulina Dohmen, zonder beroep, wonende te 's-Gravenhage" een schuldbekentenis af aan Christiaan Beckers te Jabeek voor een lening van dfl 110,- met als onderpand een perceel bouwland te Merkelbeek. Op 6 maart 1896 verkoopt Pauline Dohmen, zonder beroep, bij volmacht aan Andries Diederen, landbouwer, "in huwelijk met Maria Dohmen" (haar zuster), voor dfl 500,- al haar onroerende goederen in de vorm van percelen grond in Schinveld en Merkelbeek. De machtiging die Pauline heeft afgegeven en die haar handtekening draagt (zie bijlageklapper) dateert van 5 februari 1896 uit Delft [bron notaris Lienaerts te Merkelbeel 1896 akte 79]. Van de koopsom krijgt Pauline dfl 100,-. Het resterende bedrag gaat naar de Roomsch Catholijke Kerkfabriek van Brussum ter aflossing van een hypothecaire lening in 1895 door deze Kerkfabriek aan Pauline verstrekt met de verkochte stukken land (1 te Merkelbeek en 6 te Schinveld) als onderpandvolgens akte verleden voor notars Lienaerts op 16 februari 1895 . Volgens deze laatste akte woonde ze toen in Nijmegen.
In 1893 is bij notaris Lienaerts te Merkelbeek een akte opgesteld door haar (toen wonend te 's-Gravenhage) en haar broer Johannes Franciscus Antonius (toen wonend in Roermond) "over de inschrijving tegen hunnen gewezen voogd Jan Mathijs Dohmen". Wat dat precies inhield is niet bekend want de akte zélf ontbreekt in het archief van de notaris. Broer en zuster waren bij het overlijden van hun beide ouders in 1880 nog minderjarig. Toen is kennelijk hun oom Jan Mathijs (Joannes Mathias) Dohmen als hun voogd aangesteld. Deze laatste overleed in 1894.
Pauline kwam wel eens logeren in Schinveld, bij haar familie in de Onderste Molen. Haar achternichtje Mia (Breij)-Diederen, kleindochter van Pauline's zuster Maria Agnes Diederen-Dohmen, die beiden ook in de Onderste Molen woonden, vertelde over haar oudtante Pauline het volgende verhaal. "Ze woonde in Den Haag en had daar een bontzaak. Ze leefde gescheiden "van tafel en bed" van haar echtgenoot en daar sprak mam (Mia's moeder, de toenmalige molenaarsvrouw Marie Diederen-Gielen) schande van. Oma (Maria Agnes Diederen-Dohmen) en tante Pauline spraken Frans met elkaar, dat hadden ze geleerd bij de Franse zusters (in Schinveld). Tanta Pauline was een heel chique vrouw, ze was opgemaakt en droeg een lorgnet. Ze heeft mij voorgedaan hoe je je moet opmaken. Het was de eerste keer dat ik zag hoe je lippenstift moet opbrengen". Mia heeft toen ook lippenstift opgedaan en de reactie van haar moeder was: "het moet niet gekker worden, straks gaan ze zich nog de vot beschilderen".
Haar Schinveldse familie vond tante Pauline een chique vrouw met stadse manieren en uitstraling en een veel lossere levenshouding dan men in Schinveld gewend was.
