Deze Jan van Uem was veldwachter in Zevenaar.

Uit ; wat de oorlog bracht over Zevenaar Door ; Isfridus de Groot ord.praem.;

10 november 1939 ’s avonds was de spanning zeer hoog gestegen. Die nacht zou de vijand komen. De Duitsers zouden 11 november [dag van de wapenstilstand in 1918] te baat nemen
om hun eer te herstellen zei men.
[uit officiele gegevens blijkt inderdaad dat Hitler van plan was 11-11-39 Nederland en Belgie
binnen te vallen, maar dit werd uitgesteld vanwege de slechte weerberichten.
Op het eind van de Didamseweg welke op de Babberichseweg uitkomt werd een versperring aangelegd.
Dit werk werd verricht door burgers onder leiding van gemeente veldwachter van Uem.
Die versperring kreeg de naam Oswald linie, naar de veldwachter Oswald Scholten.

Op 7 juli 1942 zond loco-burgemeester Hendriks aan 'die Zentralstelle fur Jüdische Auswanderung' te Amsterdam een lijst van in de gemeente 'wohnhafte Jüdische Personen'. Het betrof uiteraard het gezin van David Northeimer. Twee dagen later vroeg hijaan de Procureur-Generaal te Arnhem of de beide fietsen van Northeimer niet terug gegeven konden worden gegeven aan M.A. van Schaik, die met instemming van de Duitsers als waarnemer van het bedrijf van Northeimer optrad. Maar daartoe was procureur De Rijke niet bereid. Het slagersbedrijf van Northeimer was niet 'geariseerd' en dus bleven het Joodse fietsen en die behoorden aan het verkeer te worden onttrokken. Tien dagen later werden de in beslag genomen fietsen ter beschikking gesteld van deDuitse Wehrmacht. Veldwachter Van Uum uit Zevenaar werd belast met de inlevering van de in de regio ingepikte fietsen. Hij moest er mee naar Garage Aalbers in Oosterbeek, waar de Duitse autoriteiten, tot zijn grote ergernis, niet eens de moeite namenhem een bewijs van ontvangst mee te geven.
