Notes about Roelof de Weger
Toen Roelof 6 jaar was scheidden zijn ouders en ging moeder Bartje terug naar haar ouders in Donkerbroek en nam Roelof mee.
Roelof was de enige erfgenaam van Bartje Roelofs Wierda. Van de erfenis kocht hij het huis aan de Drentse Hoofdvaart, waar hij zijn hele leven heeft gewoond.
Vader haalde (ontvoerde?) Roelof echter terug uit Donkerbroek naar Hijkersmilde toen hij hertrouwde met Elsje SIkkema. Roelof had niets met zijn jongere zussen Agatha en Eelkje en binnen het gezin heerste geen goede sfeer. Van zijn vader leerde hij het vak wagenmaker. Toen hij 18 jaar werd kreeg hij een fiets en op deze fiets ging hij naar Donkerbroek en bracht een bezoek aan zijn moeder. Dat was in 1903. In 1906 overleed Bartje Wiersma. Zij was een rijke boerendochter en liet alles wat zij bezat na aan Roelof. Roelof kocht van de erenis het huis in Smilde.
