Johanna heeft haar opleiding genoten te Zutphen en werd daarna wijkverpleegkundige te Velp, inwonende in het ziekenhuis aldaar. In Kampen heeft ze als kraamverpleegster gewerkt bij een vriendin van haar E.G. Johanna Bleeker-Kobus (haar man J.G.Bleeker was directeur van een inrichting met 27 jongens). Zij moet in Kampen aan de waterkant onwel zijn geworden en te water geraakt. Een schipper is nog naar de plek geroeid, maar toen hij daar aankwam was ze reeds gezonken.
