Opa heeft wegens broederdienst de dienstplicht niet hoeven te vervullen. Toen hij 19 was, was hij timmermansknecht en had hij 6 jaar lagere school gehad en 4 jaar Ambachts avond school
Opa heeft op 1 januari 1935 een marktkaart aangevraagd voor Amsterdam.
Opa kwam in 1939 in Purmerend wonen vanuit Bovenkarspel. Als slagersknecht woonde hij aan de Peperstraat 11. Hij huurde daar een kamer van de heer Hekelaar, hij was ook de eigenaar van de slagerij aan Padjedijk 6.
Vanaf 1957 komt opa's naam veel voor in de kranten als voetbal scheidsrechter.

Hun vader Cornelis Hekelaar was een paardenslager aan de Nieuwstraat C181 in Purmerend

in die tijd hield opa's vader Willem een slagerij aan huis, gerund door zijn oudste zoon Jaap, aan de Broekerhavenweg B93 (103) te Bovenkarspel
later heeft Jaap een eigen slagerij geopend in Rotterdam.
opa en oma hebben ook nog een zoon gehad, Johannes Martinus Ooteman, hij is helaas na de geboorte overleden vanwege resus factor. 22 juli 1953 Purmerend:-( zij woonden te Landsmeer . Hij is overleden om 16:30 uur.

In Purmerend was opa voetbal scheidsrechter, dat weet ik door krantenberichten in bv 1956. Het eerste team van B.F.C. tot zeker 1964
Opa was fan van F.C. Volendam
