Veel werk kwam tot stand in zuid Frankrijk waar hij vaak verbleef in Espeluche. In de jaren 70 gaf hij enige jaren les aan de Academie Minerva.Hij was voorzitter van de Ned Kring van Tekenaars en lid van oa de AquarellistenKring en Arti et Amicitiae.

Notes about Antonie Frederik Jacobus "Tonnie" Buijtendijk

Als 15 jarige jongen kreeg hij tijdens de schoolvacanties lessen van de larense kunstschilder Frans Langeveld(1877-1939). Daardoor kwam hij in contact met talloze kunstenaars waaronder Piet Mondriaan. Hij studeerde aan de Rijksacademie te Amsterdam. Na zijn studie keerde hij eind jaren dertig terug naar Groningen waar hij als schilder werkte en zich aansloot bij kunstgroep de Regenboog en in 1941 werd hij lid van 'De Ploeg'. Hij werkte, aanvankelijk figuratief en impressionistisch in het landschap van Groningen en Drenthe. Na de oorlog keerde hij terug naar Amsterdam en ontwikkelde zich steeds meer als abstract landschapsschilder, waar invloeden te zien zijn van Emil Nolde en William Turner. Hij noemde zichzelf 'intuïtief' en ontwikkelde een stijl die hij als 'Modern Expressionistisch' beschreef. Veel werk kwam tot stand in zuid Frankrijk waar hij vaak verbleef in Espeluche. In de jaren 70 gaf hij enige jaren les aan de Academie Minerva. Hij was voorzitter van de Ned Kring van Tekenaars en lid van o.a. de Nederlandse Aquarellistenkring en Arti et Amicitiae. In Galerie Nieuw Schoten in Haarlem is van 25-9 tot 17-12-2016 een overzichtstentoonstelling van zijn werk "Alles is ontstaan uit een volledig gebrek aan regelmaat". Musea: o.a. Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Groninger Museum en het Letterkundig Museum in Den Haag. Daarnaast is er werk opgenomen in collecties van diverse musea in het buitenland: Athene, Pretoria, Curacao.
