Julius Gronert Junior moved to the colony of Dutch East Indies in 1897. He married one year later to Dorine van Holst Pellekaan. Julius started a transportation company moving freight by riverboats from the interior of Java to the port city of Batavia. This company was very successful and Julius Jr did very well financially. He moved to Buitenzorg a rich villa district from Batavia. In 1910 he divorced from Dorine. He met Edith Peterson during a business trip to Australia and married her in 1914 in Melbourne, Australia. This marriage did not last long and in 1917 he divorced again. Through some friends of his he met the much younger Vera Kruijsboom, and married to her in late 1918 in Batavia.
Julius Gronert Jr. had 2 sons from his first marriage with Dorine (one of them died young), and had a daughter with Vera.
Julius tried to make a large deal in Pepper in the mid-1925. When the pepper price suddenly dropped 200% he lost all his money and his company, and had to declare bankruptcy. While in his office in Batavia, trying to cope with this situation, he had a stroke, and died a week later in Carolus Ziekenhuis (Hospital) in Batavia.
Julius Gronert Jr. left behind a penniless wife and daughter.
