    Op vrijdagavond 6 maart om acht uur werd Jacob door het personeel van de NS op het rangeerterrein gevonden tussen de rails, kennelijk overleden. Dr. Vink werd uit Haren gehaald en constateerde een been- en schedelbreuk. Hij wordt in de krant van 10 maart genoemd, als vader van 8 kinderen, arbeider-rangeerder, wonende te Delfzijl. Hij verrichtte plaatsvervangend werk. Tijdens dat werk werd hij gegrepen door een rangerende machine. De machinist van de trein had niets gemerkt.
