Leendert, vernoemd naar zijn tante Leen(tje) Molenaar X B.J. Eernink, is verongelukt met een motorfiets tussen Den Helder en Den Oever. In het gezinsverband kan men zeggen dat hij
'het kind van de rekening was'. Een vrijbuiterskarakter niet vreemd aan diverse andere Bastemeijers. Op zijn negende verloor hij zijn moeder en leefde samen met zijn broer Bob(Bastiaan L.) met zijn zieke vader tot november 1947 in het ouderlijk huis. Aanvankelijk is hij opgenomen in het gezin van zijn broer Arie. Hij, Arie en zeer zeker zijn vrouw Mary waren gezien hun leeftijd niet in staat om Leen in het goede spoor te krijgen. Hij is daarom opgenomen in het protestant/hervormd? weeshuis te Vlaardingen.
Het leek goed te komen en zijn zwager Hendrik vond het beter ook hem in zijn gezin op te nemen. Hendrik, toch heel wat mans kon zijn gedrag niet aan. In overleg met de voogdijraad werd hij geplaatst in het protestant christelijk opvoedingsgesticht'Valkenheide' gelegen in de bossen van Maarsbergen. Daar heeft hij het timmervak geleerd. Na een relatief korte periode in die inrichting wederom in een gezin geplaats wegens goed gedrag. Vervolgens naar de Kon. Marine in het dienstvak Timmerman en brevet duiker.
Een leven op de rails gebracht. Helaas kwam er toch weer een moment van onbedachtzaamheid en is het motorongeluk zijn levenseind geworden. Een vriendin met een enorm verdriet bleef achter. Hij is met militaire eer (de wens van zijn zusters) te Poortugaal begraven alwaar hij rust in een (helaas) naamloos graf.
