Jan Hubert diende in 1917 een vezoek in voor een logementsvergunning en voor kleinhandel in sterke drank. Dit verzoek werd hem na een nieuw verzoek aan gedeputeerde staten van 30-maart 1918 geweigerd omdat hij geen logementvoorzieningen voor reizenden had. Na een inspectie door Staatstoeicht op de naleving van de drankwet wordt zijn drankvergunning ingetrokken. De ruimte van de biljartkamer bleek met een oppervlakte van 17,35 m2 te klein . Tevens bleek ook de luchttoevoer in de ruimte links van de ingang niet voldoende te zijn omdat de ramen te klein waren.
