They got married on October 23, 1891 at Vlissingen (ZE), he was 23 years old.

Na het huwelijk ging het echtpaar wonen in de Verlengde Kolvenierstraat (N 238), nu Glacisstrtaat 146. Het volgende jaar woonde het gezin in de Wagenaarstraat (I 41), nu nr. 27, in 1895 Lange Nieuwstraat (H 224 en H 252a), resp. nu Nieuwstraat nr. 63 en 31. Het jaar daarna woonde men Kerkhofvoetpad (F 71), de latere Kerkhoflaan, die nu niet meer bestaat (nr. 2).In 1897 werd het adres Bouwen Ewoutstraat (O 170), later nr. 25.
Hier kwamen de ouders vanuit de Rioolstraat inwonen en overleed de vader Mattheus Sr.in 1900. In 1901 verhuisde men naar de Glacisstraat, waar achtereenvolgens werd gewoond in de panden O 1 (nu nr. 13) en N 282 (nu nr. 58) (hier overleed de (schoon)moeder) en O 411 (nu nr. 33).
In 1910 werd verhuisd naar Kasteelstraat 105, waar men meer dan twintig jaar woonde.

Na de pensionering vertrok het echtpaar naar Dordrecht, waar Mattheus in 1937 overleed. Zijn vrouw keerde terug naar Vlissingen en overleed bijna twintig jaar later toen zij bij haar dochter in Terneuzen logeerde. Zij is in Vlissingen begraven.

In die tijd werden voornamen binnen de familie nauwelijks gebruikt. Mattheus werd Teeuw, Pieternella Pie(tje). Teeuw bekleedde talrijke functies in kerkelijk en maatschappelijk werk. Hij was in die tijd altijd gehaast. Bekend is dat hij bij een bezoek aan zijn broer Vanus in Rotterdam (een hele reis in die tijd!) altijd gejaagd leek, zijn handschoenen, die hij buiten altijd droeg, niet uit deed en maar een half uur bleef. Zijn vrouw moest hem altijd helpen om zijn das te strikken; was zij niet thuis dan gebeurde dit door jongste dochter Jo.
