Agnes accompanied her grandfather, Wm Farquhar, when he left Singapore in 1824. She would have been only 5 years old at the time and was, presumably, bein
g sent back to Scotland for her education.She was still in Scotland in 1831 (Letter from Esther Bernard to her father, William Farquhar, 11.2.1831. Refers to Agnes sending her a letter, dated N
ovember 1929, which took 14 months to reach her mother in Singapore. The letter was enclosed in a bundle with old clothes belonging to Elizabeth Caroline Farquhar's children from her first marriage to
John Campbell Burton. The parcel also contained "a few presents of Needlework" with which Esther was "highly pleased" as they were "all very sweetly & prettily worked" and showed "her great taste as
well as much improvement made in this branch of her Education".Agnes was back in Singapore by 1834:
"Agnes, thank God enjoys her health in [this?] Country very well. She is growing very
