"Edwin Dontje, 81 Funeral services for Edwin Dontje, 81, were held Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at the Eagle Center in Lakota with Mr. Tim Vaughan and Mr. Derek Henry officiating. Honorary bearers were Janna Littau, Brittany Boettcher, Damian Dontje,Lateesha Dontje, Brock Lang, Brianna Lang, Logan Litau, Connor LItau, Ava Litau, Daniel Lang and Christa Klosterbuer. Casketbearers were Donovan Dontje, Graig Eichenberger, Bradley Boettcher, Scott Lang, Gary Eichenberger and GradyEichen-berger. Burial was in Highland Home Cemetery, Ledyard with the Winter Funeral Home of Buffalo Center in charge of arrangements.

Edwin Karel Dontje, son of Harm and Jennie (Johnson) Dontje, was born on April 5, 1927 near Lakota, Iowa. On March 25, 1950, he was united in marriage to Marian Elaine Sleper. Together they farmed in the Lakota area until they retired. In 1994 they moved to the present home in Lakota. Besides farming, Edwin was a long-time bus driver for Ledyard Community School. On Friday, October 3, 2008, Edwin departed from this life at his home in Lakota at the age of 81.

He will be deeply missed by his daughters: Marilyn Eichenberger and her husband, Lowell, of Lakota, and Nitah Boettcher and her husband, Robert, of Blue Earth, MN; his nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his sister EdnaHarris and her husband, Howard, of Webster City; his aunt Grace Johnson of Ledyard; his daughter-in-law Sue Lang and her husband, Don, of Colorado; and by two sisters-in-law: Alfa Hertzke and her husband, Otto, and Lorraine Stewart andher husband, Robert, all of Lakota; and by his many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Gail in 1980, and by his wife Marian in 1999. Edwin accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and was true tothis choice to the very end."
