Carl Knutson, Verdi Businessman Passes, Funeral Thursday

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon, Feb. 9, for Carl B. Knutson, Verdi, who passed away Feb. 4th at Hendricks hospital. He had attained the age of 62 years, 11 months and 29 days.

Services will be conducted at Trinity Lutheran church, Elkton, S. D., the Rev. Wm. Lindloff in charge. Norman Willert will be vocalist and Mrs. Arthur Bruenning, organist.

Pallbearers will be Leo Wagner, Julius Willert, Keith Clipper, Reynold Schuchard, Fred Steuck and Thomas Reynolds. Burial will be in the Holland (Minn.) cemetery.

Carl Bertine Knutson was born February 5, 1898, at Woden, Iowa to Amanias and Bertha Knutson. He grew to manhood in Iowa and in 1930 moved to Gary, S. D., where he farmed. He was united in marriage to Jeannetta Moore on December 24, 1930, who passed away on May 8, 1932.

He remained in the Gary community and was united in marriage to Gertie Sleaper on January 30, 1933. He farmed in the Gary vicinity until 1945, when he became manager of the Sexauer elevator at Verdi, Minn., which position he held until his passing.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church in Elkton, S. D.

Mr. Knutson is survived by his wife; three daughters, (Rhoda), Mrs. Wm. Thomas Jr. of Holland, (Marlys), Mrs. Paul Bruemmer of Lake Benton, Dorthea Knutson of Verdi; three sons, Norman of Marshall, Ronald in the United States Air Force, Carl of Verdi; one sister, Mrs. Thore Braadland of Thompson, Ia.; five brothers, Albert of Buffalo Center, Ia.; Edward of Mapleton, Minn., Elmer of Bricelyn, Minn., Henry of Rake, Ia., Lester of Walters, Minn., and seven grandchildren."
