Ray Wollenburg was born July 3, 1920 on a farm near DeWill, Nebraska to Otto and Catherine Bergmeir Wollenburg. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school and graduated from DeWitt High School in 1938. Ray worked for theC.C.C. for a few years. He did thrashing in the Fulda area for a few summers. On August 23, 1942 he and Kathryn Dirks were married in Brewster, MN. Following their marriage they farmed for Frank Johnson until 1945. Ray was draftedinto the U.S. Navy and served in Japan during W.W. II. After his discharge he returned to farming and they lived north of Reading, MN for many years. Ray also worked at Campbell Soup Co. in Worthington for 20 years. He and Katie movedinto Reading in 1978. He retired from Campbell Soup in 1982 and retired from farming in 1987. Ray passed away at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington on February 2, 1999 at the age of 78. He was member of Immanuel AmericanLutheran Church rural Fulda for many years. He had served on the church council and taught Sunday School. He was also a member of the Worthington VFW and DeWitt Legion Post and had served on the Reading School Board. His favoritepastimes included hunting, fishing, playing cards, gardening, traveling, cooking for hog roasts and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Katie of Reading; four children and their spouses: Robert and Barb Wollenburg of Ramsey, MN, Janet and Charles Cran of Amery, WI, Shari Wollenburg of Round Lake, MN and Linda and Rob Lane of Ramsey, MN; 9grandchildren and one great granddaughter; six brothers, six sisters and their spouses: Gertrude Powers of Huntington Beach, CA, Lucille Petree of Ranier, OR, John Wollenburg of Courtland, NE, Louise Welch of Ashland, OR, ErnestWollenburg of DeWitt, NE, Ruth Bartunek of Gretna, NE, Otto and Ann Wollenburg of DeWitt, NE, Vernice Forman of Lincoln, NE, Alfred and Lorraine Wollenburg of York Co. VA, Donald and Shirley Wollenburg of DeWitt, NE, Robert and JudyWollenburg of Gretna, NE and Kathryn and Gary Adams of Bakersfield, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services

Saturday, February 6, 1999 at 2:30 PM at Immanuel American Lutheran Church rural Fulda, MN with the Rev. Allen Bakke officiating. The organist is Roxanne Kremer. The pallbearers are Robert Wollenburg Jr., Scott Cran, Michael Cran,Daniel Jensen, Ronald Wollenburg, Curtis Wollenburg, Raymond Lane and Robert Lane. Interment at Immanuel American Lutheran Cemetery Fulda, MN. Military honors by the Worthington VFW.'
