This was a custom in those times, after a young man hadfinished his formal education. (There is a record of a Captain Thomas Cornwallis' arrival - and a record of a Captain (no middle name) Cornwallis taken prisoner because of his involvement in the Revolutionary War on the British side).There is a record of our forebearers uncle being imprisoned and kept in this country for awhile.
