Canal Takes Life of Child; Last Rites Set

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday for Colleen Bossman, 14-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bossman, who was drowned Friday.

The tot fell into an irrigation ditch behind tourist cabins where her parents are staying in Kimberly. Rites are scheduled for 10 a.m. at White mortuary chapel. The Rev. Donald S. Blackstone will officiate.

When the child was missed a group of 20 men began a search. Saturday her mother said Colleen had been gone about 20 minutes before she was missed.

Revival efforts of crews from the Twin Falls fire department were futile. The crews applied a respirator and oxygen for 30 minutes before hope was abandoned. It was believed the girl drowned almost immediately after falling into the ditch.

The family had just returned from Kansas where her father ran combines in the wheat fields. No fence protects the back of the yard from the ditch, it was said.

Colleen is survived by her parents; a brother, Clyde Edward Bossman, 3; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Smothermon; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Bossman, all Kimberly, and great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kuper.
