Vera Joyce Kuper

(nee Hoek), 87, beloved wife of the late Melvin K. Kuper, passed away Friday December 30, 2022, in Bourbonnais, Illinois.

She was born in Lennox, South Dakota, the daughter of Christian and Elizabeth Hoek. She was a recent resident of Plainfield, formerly of Romeoville, Addison, and Chicago, Illinois.

After graduation from Nettleton Commercial College, Vera married and was employed in various roles as secretary, typesetter and accountant. A good and faithful servant, Vera lived to serve others. She was a volunteer, board member, and treasurer for Addison Community Switchboard. Vera enjoyed playing bridge with her faithful Addison friends. Her smile, laughter and music brought joy to many. She played piano, and was church organist for many years at Addison United Presbyterian Church, where she and her family were active members. Later in life Vera attended and became active with Plainfield Congregational Church (UCC).

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Harvey (Jan) Hoek, sister Irene (Harven) Brass, and grandson Jonathan Piquard.

Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

She is survived by : her children, Renae Piquard (Rick) of Greenwood, Indiana, Deborah Hand (Tom) of ElPaso, Illinois, Cynthia Sliwinski (Scott) of Bourbonnais, Illinois, Kevin Kuper (Juliane Nelson) of Marengo, Illinois and Kent Kuper (Martha) of Plainfield, Illinois; her sister Darlene Nordman (late John); her grandchildren, Nathan Piquard (Sharise), Leah Dull (Matthew), Rebecca Sears (Benjamin), Andrea Zakelj (Steve), Austin Hand (Anna), Aaron Hand (Lindsey), Kelly Golinski (Lester), Matthew Sliwinski, Alexander Kuper and Joseph Kuper (Lesley); and her great grandchildren, Eve, Ezra, Titus Piquard, Corban, Hailey, Joshua Dull, Evey Sears, Sarila, Micah Zakelj, Elise, Elliott Hand, Junia and Miriam Hand. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews."
