Funeral service for James Stevens, 80, who died May 12, at his home following a lingering illness, was held at the home at 2 p.m. on May 15, with the Rev. Marion L. Sunderlin in charge. Burial was in the Ocheyedan cemetery.
James Stevens was born in Richland, Wisconsin, September 12, 1854 where he remained until seventeen years of age. Mr. Stevens was the eighth child of Alonzo and Mary Judkins Stevens. Other children were Adelbert, Charles, Joshua, Edward, Thomas, Lura, Nellie, Joel and Preston.

In 1871 Mr. Stevens came to Osceola county where he has resided ever since. On January 28, 1892 he married Miss Laviniah Horobin in Ocheyedan and to the union were born eight children.

James Stevens is survived by his widow, Mrs. James Stevens; six children, Mrs. John Dirks of Ocheyedan, Clarence, Ellis, Lee and Joel of Melvin, and Leslie of Ocheyedan; one sister, Lura of Ocheyedan and a brother, Preston of Ocheyedan.
