His parents, George Gerhard Hoodjer and Mary Lavonne Thompson, were married on March 15, 1947, Nashua, Iowa at the Little Brown Church.

George and Mary had four children.

The oldest was Galen Hoodjer, born February 4, 1948, Waverly, Iowa.

Next were twin sons, Kenneth Hoodjer and Keith Hoodjer, born June 15, 1951, Wavery, Iowa. Sadly, Keith died on June 16, 1951 in Waverly.

The youngest was daughter, Janet Hoodjer, born May 31, 1959, Waverly, Iowa.
