Text of Dora's obituary, Bremer County Independent, 24 Oct 1989:

"DORA I. HARMS

SHELL ROCK - Dora I. Harms, 78, Shell Rock, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 24 at the Shell Rock Care Center where she had been a patient for the past three years.

She was born Dec. 23, 1910 in Glenwood, Minn., the daughter of Alexander and Rosa Moore Thompson. She attended country school and graduated form Shell Rock High School in 1928. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and worked for the Meredith Publishing Co. in Des Moines for a short time. She then taught in rural schoos in Butler and Blackhawk for six years. She taught m in the Frankville elementary school for two years. On June 2 1935 she was united in marriage to Walter Harms at Butler Center Church. The couple lived and farmed in Butler and in 1946 they moved to their present farm. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Shell Rock and taught Sunday School. Dora was a long time member of the Happy Hour Club at Norton Corners, held county office in Farm Bureau, was school board secretary at Jefferson Township School, and also secretary of Norton Corners School for several years. Dora also was secretary/treasurer of the Coster Cemetery for 50 years.

She is survived by her husband Walter; two sons, Richard and Joyce Harms of Tripoli and Dennis and Carol Harms of Corvallis, Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. John (Alice) Harms of Allison, Mrs. James (Lucille) Hollen of Winterset and Mrs. Darrel Nieman of Shell Rock; one brother, Robert Thompson of St. Charles, Mo., and four grandchildren, Mrs. Allen (Penelope) Hoeper of Spring Valley, Minn., Steven Harms of Des Moines and Deborah and Catherine Harms, borth of Carvallis. She was receded in death by her parents, one sister, Nelle Thompson and four brothers, Arthur, Harland, F.C. 'Fritz' and a brother in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 at Faith Lutheran Church, Shell Rock with Rev. Vernon W. Fasse officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock.
