Hortense "Cusi" Ferdinandsen, 78, passed away in the comfort of her home on May 21, 2017, after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Ferdinandsen grew up in Key West, Fla., and then moved to Miami to attend nursing school. She is a 1962 graduate of Jackson Memorial Hospital. While in school she met her husband, Dale Ferdinandsen, who was in Miami with the U.S. Air Force. After school she moved to Tampa, Fla., to start a family with Dale. In 1981 the family moved to Lake Charles. Cusi was a nurse at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, Calcasieu Oaks and Moss Regional Hospital. With her time away from her demanding job she enjoyed getting together with the Coffee Clutch and playing pokeno. After 52 years of being a nurse she retired in 2010. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandson, Jack Henry Richards.

She is survived by three children; a sister; grandson and many nieces and nephews.

Cusi was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Dale Wesley Ferdinandsen; and parents, Raymond and Grace Mesa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Good Counsel at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Cemetery. Father Alan Trouille will officiate. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.on Thursday, May 25, with a Cursillo Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume Friday morning at the funeral home at 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The family would like to thank Miriam Sensat, Heart of Hospice, Dr. Michael Broussard, and Dr. Gerry Hebert for their loving and professional care.
