Beryl Blumeyer, 91, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2012 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday August 27, 2012 at Resurrection Lutheran Church (914 NW Ash). A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday August 28, 2012, at First Lutheran Cemetery, in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.

Beryl Ada (Rossow) Blumeyer was born February 21, 1921 to Rudolph and Ida (Burmeister) Rossow. Beryl married the love of her life E.J. Blumeyer on December 9, 1942 in George, Iowa. They had 5 daughters: Barbara (Bob) Folkmann, Ames, IA; Beverly (Bob) Jass, Batavia, IL ; Jean (Larry) Long, Lake Wylie, SC; Joan (Don) Huston, Boise. ID; and Amy (Randy) Roggenburg, Ankeny, IA.

Beryl was the oldest of three daughters. She lived in Foxholm, MN, until 1934 when her family moved to George, IA, where she graduated from high school in 1937. She attended St Olaf College in Northfield, MN and then the Kahler School of Nursing (Mayo Clinic) Rochester, MN, where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse in 1942.

During their marriage, Beryl and E.J. lived in Goldfield, IA, Garner, IA, and Blooming Prairie, MN. Five years after the death of her husband in 2003, Beryl moved to Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny, IA where she lived until health conditions required her to move to Mercy Hospice in Johnston, where she passed away. Beryl was a member of First Lutheran Church, Blooming Prairie, MN

Beryl was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, reading and traveling, but most importantly spending time with her family and their activities. She was an active member of her church, enjoying bible study and her women's circle activities. After raising her family, Beryl had the opportunity to use her nursing at Prairie Manor nursing home in Blooming Prairie until she "retired".

Beryl is survived by her 5 daughters and their husbands, 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren who will miss her wit, advice and ready smile. She is also survived by one sister, Marge (Duane) Thoelke, Forest City, IA, 4 nieces and their families. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 61 years, E.J. Her parents, one sister Lorlie Miller ; and one granddaughter, Johnna Folkmann-Ask.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Bible Institute, Lutheran Hour, and Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
