Merle Linton DeBoer, son of Frances (Linton) DeBoer, was born March 10, 1938 on a farm south of Canton, SD. He was raised by his grandparents, Walter and Alva Linton, for six years. At age two, Merle moved with them to Sioux Falls, SD. He attended Bancroft and Lincoln Elementary Schools and Washington High School.

Merle was united in marriage with Donna Mescher on March 24, 1960 in Pipestone, MN. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, where Merle drove city bus for eight years. He then owned and operated a Phillips 66 station for 11 years. He then worked for many years at several auto dealerships and most recently was employed by Team Automotive until health issues forced his retirement.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 50 years, Donna; three children, Merlyn DeBoer and his wife, Tami, Rapid City, SD, Greg DeBoer and his wife, Brenda, Sioux Falls, SD, Laurie Peltier and her husband, Larry, Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren, Jessica Makoutz and her husband, Joe, Callie DeBoer, Kaitlyn DeBoer, Larisa DeBoer, Jordan DeBoer, Megan Peltier, Melanie Peltier; one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Makoutz; an "adopted" son, Jerry Robertson, his wife, Laurie and their daughters, Brandi and Brooke, Rapid City, SD; a brother-in-law, Alvin Mescher and his wife, Jean, Sioux Falls, SD; his faithful canine companion, Buddy; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Merle was preceded in death by his mother, Frances and his parents-in-law, Frank and Bernice Mescher.
