Harold A. Shannon was born Oct. 30, 1920 in Storm Lake, the son of James Howard and Agnes Iona (Petty) Shannon. He. attended schools in Nemaha and Storm Lake.

He was united in marriage to Laura Mae Matthews on Sept. 13, 1945, in Storm Lake.

During his lifetime, Harold had several agricultural-related occupations, including farmer, truck driver, livestock
buyer and feed salesman.

He served with the U.S. Army, 34th Division, in the African and Italian campaigns during World War II. He was
wounded on June 1, 1944, in Rome, and was awarded a Purple Heart and a bronze star for the Rome-Arno Campaign.

Shannon was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church and the Alta V.F.W. Post #6172. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

His family includes his wife Laura Mae, Storm Lake; three sons: Paul and his wife Ina Rae, Alta; David and his wife Carolyn, Storm Lake, and Robert and his wife Esther, Hanover; a daughter, Susan Shannon-Graves, Storm Lake; 9 grandsons, 7 great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren and 12 step-great grandchildren Also surviving is a half -brother, Merle Shannon and his wife Joan, Sac City, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth W. Shannon.
