Catherine E. Demet was born on Nov (or Oct) 29, 1833, in Laire, Montbeliard, France. She was the daughter of David Demet and Catherine (last name unknown).

She married Pierre (Peter) Frederic Quaile on Dec 14, 1855, in Seloncourt, France.

They had three children born in France, George Frederic, b. May 30, 1856, d. June 8, 1856; Eugenia Louise on Dec 14, 1857; and Edouard (Edward) Pierre (Peter) on Jan 13, 1866.

When Pierre got out of the service in France, the family immigrated to America, arriving at Castle Garden Immigration Center in New York City on Apr 11, 1866. They left from the port of Harve, France to London, where they boarded the immigrant ship "Cella". The family name changed to Kuaile.

Once in America, they settled in Williams Co., Ohio. Here they had four more children, Clara in 1867; Lilly on May 22, 1870; Frances (Fanny) on Dec 7, 1871; and Denora (Nora) Bertha on May 29, 1874.

By 1900, the family was living in Benton Township in Paulding Co., Ohio, where she died on Dec 3, 1914.

Text of her obituary:

"Mrs.Catherine Kuaile was born in France, Oct. 29, 1833, and died near McGill, O., Dec. 3 1914, aged 81 years, 1 month and 3 days.

Deceased and her husband came to this country about fifty years ago. Twenty-seven years ago they moved to McGill. Seven children were born to them, one dying in infancy and another died a number of years ago. Those surviving are Edward Kuaile and Mrs. Eugenie Beucler, of Paulding county, Mrs. Clara Vernier of Stryker, O., Mrs. Fannie Hider of Detroit, Mich, and Mrs. Nora Brickman of McComb, O. She is also survived by 20 grand-children and 10 great-grand-children. Her husband preceded her in death about seven years ago.

The funeral was conducted from the Stevenson church over on the Ridge last Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Laudenslager officiating and interment was made in the Stevenson cemetery.
