Obituary
Frank Ehno Folkerts was born July 14, 1937, in Bancroft, Iowa, the son of Ehno and Elsie (Smidt) Folkerts. He grew up near Titonka and was baptized and confirmed at the Ramsey Reformed Church. He graduated from the Titonka High School in 1955. After his schooling, he began farming and served in the National Guard.

On July 24, 1959, Frank was united in marriage to Janice Hulme in Buffalo Center. After their marriage, they lived and farmed near Titonka. Frank enjoyed collecting and restoring old John Deere tractors. He was very proud of the fact that two of his tractors earned a spot in the Waterloo Expo in 1991.

Frank enjoyed his tractors, collecting crocks, go-karts, snowmobiling and playing golf. He suffered a stroke in the fall of 2000 and since has enjoyed legos, putting together puzzles, playing suduko, numerics and playing cards with friends who visited. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Frank died Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at his home near Titonka. He was 82.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice of Titonka; children, Debra and Gene Uken of Titonka; Denis Folkerts and Scott Poole of Urbandale; grandchildren, Katie and Kenton Schroder; Sara and Sawyer Hrdlicka; Juan, Mark and Jose; siblings, Ann (Don) Tegtmeyer of Britt; Wanda Douglas of Worthington, MN; Ronald (Karen) Folkerts of Titonka; brother-in-law, David (Lynn) Sleper of Columbia, MO, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gary Folkerts; sister, Elaine Sleper and step-mother, Myrtle Folkerts.

"Frank was born July 14, 1937, the son of Ehno and Elsie (Smidt) Folkerts. He gew up on the family farm and received his education in the Titonka Consolidated School, graduating in 1955. Frank can remember that German was always spoken at home. He still enjoys speaking the German language. Frank married Janice Hulme July 24, 1959. Janice was bon February 26, 1940, the daughter of Edward and Doris Hulme (Ankeny) from Woden, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children.

Debra Kay, married Gene Uken, son of George and Sharon Uken, lives in Titonka. Children are Katie Jo and Sara Kay Uken.

Denis Alan of Forest City, Iowa.

Frank started farming on his own in 1957 and continues to enjoy his farming operation. He also enjoys restoring and collecting antique tractors. Janice has enjoyed employment at the Titonka Savings Bank since December of 1959. She enjoys craft projects and quilting. Frank and Janice are members of the Doan United Methodist Church."
