Leonard made a career as an educator and in the late 1950s was superintendent at Monroe Central School System at Parker City, Indiana. Monroe Central was a consolidation of schools located at Farmland,Parker City, Green Twp, and Stoney Creek Twp that took place in 1958 with the first graduating class in 1959.
