Wilma Jane (Russell) Hewitt, age 96 went to be with her Lord on Friday morning, March 8, 2013. She was born March 11, 1916 in Delaware County, Indiana to Marion A. and Alma (Clevenger) Russell.

She attended the Royerton School from grades 1 thru 12, then Ball State College, Muncie, Indiana, graduating with a Bachelor's degree. After the birth of her eleventh child she completed her Master's degree.

Wilma taught school full time from 1948 to 1981 retiring at age 65. Classes ranged from high school home economics, science, general elementary school and grades 1 to 6 art classes. She was an accomplished oil paint artist completing more than 400 paintings. She sewed clothing for her children, made many lovely cloth dolls, teddy bears, puppets, and macrame
projects.

Surviving are children: Eleanor H. Philebaum Leap of Michigan, Janet W. (Paul) Vaughan of Tennessee, Teresa L. (Albert Jay) Berwick of Missouri, Robert O. (Jeanne) Hewitt of Georgia, James M.(Rhoda) Hewitt of Virginia, Jo Ellen Hewitt of Indiana, Kent E.(Karen) Hewitt of South Carolina, William A.(Barbara) Hewitt of Illinois, daughter-in-law Jean Hewitt, brother James W.(Esther) Russell, and sister-in-law Betty Russell both of Muncie, 28 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Leonard O. Hewitt in 1992, three children, Linda Hewitt Jackson, Lyle Eric Hewitt, and Arthur Leonard Hewitt; grandson Sean Hewitt, brother Marion Russell, sisters Mary Calhoun, Ruth Storms, Edna Tarbell, and Jane Lee

Friends may call on Wednesday March 13, 2013 from 11AM-1PM, at the Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. Indiana 3, Muncie. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie.
